Questions, answered plainly
Which devices and browsers does it work on?
It runs on current desktop browsers with a webcam. We are still testing on iPhone and iPad, and inside the in-app browsers in apps like Instagram and TikTok, which often block camera access altogether. Where a shopper's browser can't run it, WeTryOn says so in plain words rather than failing silently.
Does it slow my store down?
Before a shopper taps, all that loads is a small script and its stylesheet — under 6KB together, compressed, served from Shopify's CDN. Nothing is fetched from our servers, no camera is touched and no tracking runs on an ordinary page view. The try-on code itself downloads only after the tap.
Where does the shopper's video go?
From their browser straight to the AI providers that generate the live try-on. It never reaches our servers and we keep no copy. Those providers are contractually limited to providing the service — no selling, no sharing, and deletion is required. If you switch on replay and save, a copy stays in the shopper's own browser and is deleted when they close the window.
How does the free trial work?
Every plan starts with a 3-day free trial that includes 5 try-ons — enough to test it on your own products before shoppers do. It is limited in try-ons as well as days, so it isn't unlimited use for 3 days. Nothing you use during the trial is billed. There is no free plan.
What happens when my allowance runs out?
By default they stop until your next billing period, which resets on your Shopify billing date. You can turn on pay-as-you-go instead: extra try-ons are billed at your plan's rate and you set the maximum, so it can never run away. During the free trial neither applies — no billing period is open yet.
What can shoppers try on?
Tops, dresses and full outfits, outerwear, trousers and skirts, footwear, hats and necklaces. The area to replace is worked out automatically from the product's type, category and tags, so there is nothing to set. Anything unrecognised is treated as an upper-body garment and still runs.
Do I need special product photos?
No. The reference image is picked automatically from the variant photo, or the product's main photo if there isn't one. There is nothing to upload, crop or tag. A clean, flat photo of the item gives a better result than a photo of someone already wearing it.
Can I control where the button shows and how it looks?
Yes, within limits. When you install, every product is checked: the button appears on the ones that are clearly wearable, anything we are unsure of waits for you to say what it is, and you can switch any product off. You choose whether the button is outlined or solid, its corner style, and one optional colour — or let it match your theme. You also choose the size, position and light or dark styling of the try-on window. The button's text and its position on the page are set in your theme editor. There is no custom CSS.
How long is one try-on?
15 seconds, on every plan. There is nothing to set — one try-on is one try-on, and your plan's number is the number you get. The shopper is told the same figure in the camera notice, before their camera turns on.
What stops one shopper using up my allowance?
There is a setting to limit each shopper to one try-on per product per cycle. It is enforced on our side, not in the browser, so it can't be worked around by reloading the page. It is off by default, so shoppers can try again unless you turn it on.
Can shoppers save or share their try-on?
Only if you turn that on, and it is off by default. When it is on, the try-on is recorded in the shopper's own browser and they can replay it or download it, optionally with your store and product name burned into the video. Nothing is ever uploaded, and neither you nor we receive the file. Turning it on also changes the wording of the notice shoppers agree to.
Will it show shoppers how something fits?
No, and the app says so on screen. The result is AI-generated and labelled as such the whole time it runs, next to a note that it is an approximation and may differ from the real product in fit, colour and fabric. It is for seeing yourself in something, not for judging size.
How do I uninstall?
From the Apps page in your Shopify admin, like any other app. Try-ons stop straight away, and everything we hold about your store is deleted within 48 hours. The block stays in your theme until you remove it in your theme editor, where you added it.
